SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Stef Young (Natick,
MA) made five saves en route to her third shutout of the season as
Southern New Hampshire University scored twice in the second half
en route to a 2-0 Northeast-10 women's soccer victory over American
International College at AIC Park. The win, the fourth
straight for the Penmen, ups their record to 5-1-1 and 4-1 in the
NE-10, while the Yellow Jackets are now 6-3-1 and 1-3-1 in the
league.
For Young, the shutout marks the
11th of her career, tying her with Patty Turner for
fifth place on the program's career shutout list with 11.
Turner played for the Penmen from 1983-85.
After a scoreless first half,
Southern New Hampshire scored twice in the second half.
Alyssa Thayer (Hooksett, NH) got the Penmen on the
board at the 51:23 mark after scoring on a feed from Sophia
Saint Paul (Brockton, MA). SNHU would up its
advantage in the 72nd minute when Danielle
Courtemanche (Glastonbury, CT) scored her first collegiate
goal, an unassisted tally.
Kara Potts went the first 27:45 in
goal for AIC and made three saves before giving way to Danielle
Hodecker, who allowed two goals and stopped nine shots while going
the rest of the way. The Penmen outshot their hosts 29-10.
SNHU returns to action Wednesday
night when it hosts Bentley College in a 7:00 match at Larkin
Field.
