GOFFSTOWN,
N.H. - Third-seeded Southern New Hampshire University
rallied from a 2-1 deficit after doubles play to post a 5-4 win
over No. 6 seed Saint Anselm College in the quarterfinals of the
Northeast-10 Women's Tennis Championship Tuesday afternoon at the
Goffstown YMCA. The Penmen, who advance to face second-seeded
Bentley in Thursday's semifinals, improve to 11-3, while the Hawks
see their season come to a close at 7-6.
Meghan Welch (Mont
Vernon, NH) clinched the win for the Penmen with her win at No. 6
singles. She dropped the first set to Saint Anselm's
Amanda Brahm 6-1, but rallied to take the match with 6-3 victories
in the second and third sets.
Also picking up singles wins for
the Penmen were Amber Chandronnait (Bow, NH) at
No. 1, Catalina Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) at No.
2 and Alison Waring (Westborough, MA) at No.
4. Chandronnait and Echeverry also posted SNHU's lone doubles
win, defeating the Hawks' Laura Nason and Erika Sartor 8-3.
Thursday's match at Bentley is
slated for a 3:00 start. The Falcons edged the Penmen 5-4
when the two teams met earlier this season in Waltham, MA.
