SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Ariel Teixeira
(Warren, R.I.) finished with two goals and two assists for Southern
New Hampshire University as it played Le Moyne College to a wild
4-4 double overtime tie Wednesday afternoon at the Niland Athletic
Complex. The Penmen now stand 1-1-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the
Northeast-10, while the Dolphins are 2-0-1 and 0-0-1 in the league.
SNHU held a 2-1 lead at halftime,
but the Dolphins would tie the game 8:27 into the second half when
Christie Morano scored her second goal of the game off of a long
free kick by Courtney Paddock. The Penmen would reclaim the
lead 1:05 later when Emily Donahue (Bristol, R.I.)
headed home a cross by Teixeira from five yards out for her first
collegiate goal. Teixeira would give the guests a 4-2 lead in
the 62nd minute when she scored an unassisted tally.
Le Moyne would cut the lead in half
just over three minutes later when Morano scored her third goal of
the game off from a feed by Molly Yaman. The Dolphins would
force overtime with 1:16 left in regulation when Paddock converted
a free kick from just outside the right side of the box.
Neither team could get much going in overtime, with two shots
apiece in the first 10 minutes and no shots in the second extra
frame.
Morano gave Le Moyne a 1-0 lead
just 6:35 into the game when she beat Southern New Hampshire keeper
Stef Young (Natick, Mass.) with a low shot.
Teixeira would make it 1-1 in the 26th minute when she
redirected a free kick off the foot of Danielle
Courtemanche (Glastonbury, Conn.). The Penmen took a
2-1 lead 3:47 before intermission when freshman Kaleigh
Roberge (Manchester, N.H.) scored her first collegiate
goal. Roberge knocked in a long crossing pass off the foot of
Teixeira.
Young and Le Moyne keeper Melissa
Stevens each totaled four saves as the Penmen generated a slight
18-16 shot advantage. The Dolphins were able to post an 11-1
edge in corner kicks on the afternoon.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Saturday when it hosts Pace University in a 4:00 contest at
Larkin Field.
NOTES: Teixeira
has now totaled five goals over SNHU's first three games after
recording three goals and three assists as a freshman in 2008...she
has had a hand in seven of the nine Penmen goals this season...the
four goals are SNHU's highest output since scoring four in a 4-1
win over Stonehill on September 23 of last season.
