NORTH ANDOVER,
Mass. - Khara Roman scored twice, including the
game-winner with 2:21 remaining in the second overtime period, to
lift Merrimack College to a 2-1 Northeast-10 women's soccer win
over Southern New Hampshire University at Warrior Field Wednesday
night. The Warriors improved to 8-2-1 overall and 5-2 in the
NE-10, while the Penmen, who were playing their sixth-straight
overtime game and seventh of the season, are now 3-6-3 and 1-4-3 in
the league.
Both Merrimack goals came on corner
kicks. The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the 35th
minute when Roman scored off a corner by Kerri Domohowski.
Merrimack would hold that lead until the Penmen tied the game at
the 50:07 mark when Brittany Roberts (Lebanon,
N.H.) scored off a feed from Kristina Cardoso
(Stoughton, Mass.) The hosts notched the game-winner when
Jackie Vickers sent a corner kick into the box. After a touch
by Jessica Peacock, Roman registered the game-winner.
Kiley Horne earned the win in goal
for Merrimack, relieving starter Brittany Gustafson at halftime and
making three saves. Gustafson turned aside one shot in the
first half. SNHU keeper Stef Young (Natick,
Mass.) made six saves for the Penmen as the Warriors generated a
21-10 shot advantage on the evening.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Saturday when it hosts Assumption College in a 1:00 game at
Larkin Field.
