MANCHESTER, N.H.—Ariel
Teixeira (Warren, R.I.) converted on a penalty kick in
the 80th minute to lead the Southern New Hampshire
University women's soccer team to a 3-2 win against Northeast-10
Conference opponent Adelphi University on Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Penmen improve to 5-6-1 overall and 4-5-1 in the
NE-10, while the loss drops the Panthers to 4-5-1 overall and 4-5-0
in NE-10 action.
Adelphi would strike first at the 21:38 mark as Brianne
Mcdonnell collected a pass from teammate Emily Dunne and shot to
the lower left corner past SNHU goalkeeper Maggie
Weldon (Manchester, N.H.). The Panthers would
carry the 1-0 lead into the second half.
Southern New Hampshire would even the score at 1-1 in the
66th minute as Teixiera fed a through-ball to Ashley
Jaskula (Palmer, Mass.) who fired the shot from inside
the eight-yard box. The Penmen would take the 2-1 lead at the
80:03 mark as Kaleigh
Roberge (Manchester, N.H.) tallied her fourth goal of
the season on a pass from Alyssa Thayer
(Hooksett, N.H.)
Adelphi would again even the game at 2-2 three minutes later as
Dunne tallied an unassisted goal. Teixeira's game-winning
goal would follow 22 seconds after, giving the Penmen the 3-2
advantage.
Weldon recorded four saves in net for the Penmen en route to the
win. Dorothy Connolly took the loss for Adelphi, stopping
eight shots in the complete-game effort. The Penmen outshot
the visiting Panthers 21-18 on the afternoon.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Wednesday, traveling
to Saint Michael's College for a 3:30 p.m. Northeast-10 Conference
matchup.
