WORCESTER, Mass.—Alyssa Thayer
(Hooksett, N.H.) and Kaleigh
Roberge (Manchester, N.H.) each totaled a goal and an
assist to lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer
team a 3-1 win against Assumption College at the Multi-Sport
Stadium on Friday evening. With the win, the Penmen record
their fifth-straight win and improve to 9-6-1 overall and 8-5-1 in
Northeast-10 Conference action, while the loss drops the Greyhounds
to 4-10-2 overall and 4-9-1 in NE-10 play.
With the win, the Penmen clinched a Northeast-10 Tournament
berth. Southern New Hampshire currently sits in fourth place
in the NE-10 standings after being selected 13th in the league's
preseason poll.
The Penmen would strike first, as Ariel
Teixeira (Warren, R.I.) scored at the 3:59 mark on a
long ball after deking the defender. Emily
Donahue (Bristol, R.I.) assisted on the goal.
The goal would mark the only scoring in the first half.
Thayer would tally her second goal of the year in the
59th minute on an assist for Roberge to take the 2-0
lead. The Greyhounds would add a goal of their own in the
76th minute as Katie Lydon fired a long shot over the
head of SNHU goalkeeper Maggie Weldon
(Manchester, N.H.). Justine DiDonato assisted on the goal.
With just under six minutes left to play, Roberge would gain a
breakaway to tally the Penmen's third goal of the game.
Thayer assisted on the goal to give the Penmen the final 3-1
advantage.
Weldon earned the win in net for the Penmen, making two saves in
the complete-game effort. Allison Bruder played 70 minutes in
net for the Greyhounds and totaled three saves before giving way to
Miranda Raine, who recorded one save.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Wednesday when they
host Bentley University in Northeast-10 action at 6:00 p.m. for the
final regular season contest of the season.
