SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—Caroline Boyce scored twice in the second half to lead No. 4 American International College to a 2-1 win over the Southern New Hampshire women's soccer team in the quarterfinal round in Northeast-10 Conference tournament.
Andrea Wilson (North Kingston, R.I.) would waste no time putting the Penmen on the scoreboard, as she connected a header shot off of a free kick from Danielle Courtemanche (Glastonbury, Conn.) with 41:20 remaining in the first half. The remainder of the half would remain scoreless, with the Penmen posting a narrow 8-6 shot advantage.
Boyce would even the game at 1-1 in the 76th minute, finding the open shot amidst a tie-up in the box. Boyce would also post the game-winning goal with 55 seconds remaining in the game after she intercepted a throw by SNHU goalkeeper Maggie Weldon (Manchester, N.H.) as she attempted to clear the ball after recovering a Yellow Jackets corner kick.
Weldon recorded six saves in the loss for the Penmen, while Yellow Jackets goalkeeper Kara Potts was only forced to make one save as the Yellow Jackets outshot the Penmen 22-13 on the afternoon.
With the loss, the Penmen see their season come to a close at 10-7-1 overall, while the win boosts the Yellow Jackets to 13-5-1. The Yellow Jackets will advance to face top-seeded Saint Rose on Thursday.
