GARDEN CITY, N.Y.
– The Southern New Hampshire University
women's tennis team defeated Adelphi University 8-1 Sunday
afternoon. With the victory against undefeated Adelphi, the
Penmen improve to 6-1 overall and extend their Northeast-10 record
to 2-0. With the loss, Adelphi falls to 10-1 overall and 7-1
in Northeast-10 conference play.
SNHU swept all three doubles
matches and the top three singles matches on the schedule.
Amber Chandronnait (Bow, N.H.) and Alena
Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) recorded the No. 1 doubles
victory, winning 8-5. Catalina Echeverry
(Cali, Colombia) and Alison Waring (Westboro,
Mass.) recorded the 8-0 win in No. 2 doubles play.
Kara Pease (Falmouth, Mass.) and Sam
Jean (Bedford, N.H.) tallied a 9-7 victory in the No. 3
doubles contest.
Chandronnait, Mukdaprakorn, and
Echeverry won the first three matches in singles play on the
afternoon. Chandronnait was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 1, while
Mukdaprakorn defeated her opponent after a long tie-breaker set 7-6
(14-12), 6-4. Echeverry posted a 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 3
singles match.
Jean recorded the No. 5 singles
match victory (8-2) and Pease recorded her No. 6 singles match
victory (8-6).
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action on March 30 as they face off in an away contest against
Saint Michael's at 4:00 p.m.
