MANCHESTER, N.H.
– The Southern New Hampshire University
women's tennis team halted Stonehill College's 18-match
dual match win streak against Northeast-10 opponents with a 6-3 win
Thursday afternoon at the SNHU courts. The Penmen, who remain
the only unbeaten team in league play, won their sixth in a row to
improve to 7-1 and 4-0 in the NE-10, while the Skyhawks, who had
not dropped a regular season league contest since April 20, 2008,
are now 9-2 and 6-1 in the league.
The Penmen opened up by winning two
of three doubles matches. Amber Chandronnait
(Bow, N.H.) and Alena Mukdaprakorn (Hartford,
Conn.) were 8-2 winners at No. 1, while at No. 2, Catalina
Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) and Alison
Waring (Westborough, Mass.) rallied from a 5-4 deficit to
post an 8-5 win.
In singles play, Chandronnait was a
6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 1, while Mukdaprakorn prevailed 6-2, 6-2 in
the No. 2 spot. Echeverry was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 3,
while Kara Pease (Falmouth, Mass.) rallied for a
1-6, 6-2, 10-7 win at No. 6 singles.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Friday afternoon when it hosts The College of Saint Rose in
a 4:00 match.
