GOFFSTOWN, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire
University women's tennis team wrapped up an undefeated
Northeast-10 season and the program's first-ever NE-10
regular season title with a 9-0 sweep of Franklin Pierce University
Saturday at the Goffstown YMCA. The Penmen, who have now won
15 straight matches, improved to 16-1 and 13-0 in the Northeast-10,
while the Ravens stand 1-11 overall and in the league.
Dating back to last season, the
Penmen have won 17 straight Northeast-10 regular season matches and
are 23-2 over the past two seasons in conference regular season
play. SNHU's 16 wins to date are a school record.
Amber Chandronnait
(Bow, N.H.) and Alena Mukdaprakorn (Hartford,
Conn.) were 8-1 winners at No. 1 doubles while each were 6-1, 6-1
winners at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Chandronnait
wrapped up conference play unbeaten in singles play (13-0) for the
second straight year, while freshman Mukdaprakorn finished
conference play 11-1. The pair was also 11-0 in doubles
play.
Catalina Echeverry
(Cali, Colombia) and Alison Waring (Westboro,
Mass.) were 8-1 winners at No. 2 doubles, while Echeverry was a
6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 3 singles and Waring a 8-3 winner at No.
singles. The pair finished 9-1 in league play in doubles,
while Echeverry wrapped up NE-10 play 12-0 at No. 3 singles.
Echeverry was unbeaten in conference singles play for the second
straight season, and is 31-1 in league play over the past three
seasons.
The No. 1 seed in the upcoming
Northeast-10 Tournament, the Penmen will host a quarterfinal match
on Wednesday (4/21) at the SNHU courts.
