Women's Tennis Advances to Northeast-10 Semifinals

MANCHESTER, N.H – Top-seeded Southern New Hampshire University posted a 5-0 win over No. 8 seed Merrimack College in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Women's Tennis Championship Wednesday afternoon.  The Penmen, who won their 16th straight match, improve to 17-1 and advance to the NE-10 semifinals for the third straight season.  The Warriors see their season come to a close at 6-13 overall.

SNHU will host a semifinal match on Friday (April 23) at the SNHU courts.  The Penmen will entertain No. 4 seed Saint Michael's College, a 5-0 winner over fifth-seeded Bentley University, in a 2:00 pm match.  SNHU played its closest match in conference play earlier this season against the Purple Knights, edging them 5-4 in a match played at Saint Michael's on March 30.

The Penmen swept the three doubles matches.  Amber Chandronnait (Bow, N.H.) and Alena Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) were 8-2 winners at No. 1, while Catalina Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) and Alison Waring (Westboro, Mass.) were 8-3 winners at No. 2.  Kara Pease (Falmouth, Mass.) and Samantha Jean (Bedford, N.H.) teamed up for a 8-3 win at third doubles.

Mukdaprakorn and Waring posted singles victories for the Penmen, as Mukdaprakorn was a 6-0, 7-5 winner at No. 2, while Waring was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 4.

SNHU, which captured its first-ever Northeast-10 regular season title with a 13-0 league mark, will be looking to advance to the conference finals for the first time Friday.
