Late Goal Leads No. 18 Merrimack Past Women's Soccer

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.—Jamie Alnwick scored in the 84th minute to lead the Merrimack College Warriors to a 2-1 win against the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.  With the loss, the visiting Penmen fall to 5-5-0 overall and 3-4-0 in NE-10 play, while the win continues the Warriors' undefeated streak and sets their record to 10-0-0 overall and 8-0-0 in league play. 

Merrimack would post the first goal of the game 4:04 into the contest as Danielle Dion connected on an unassisted breakaway.  The Penmen would answer in the 23rd minute, as Emily Donahue (Bristol, R.I.) scored on a shot from outside of the 18-yard box.  Ariel Teixeira (Warren, R.I.) assisted on the goal. 

In the 84th minute, Alnwick would collected Melissa Garabedian's rebounded shot and put it home to earn the win. 

Penmen goalkeeper Samantha Whittier (Sutton, Mass.) posted three saves in the loss, while Merrimack goalkeeper Kiley Horne did not record a save for the Warriors.  Merrimack outshot SNHU 12-5 on the afternoon. 

Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to face American International College at 7:00 p.m. in Northeast-10 action.  It will be the first meeting between the two schools since last year's Northeast-10 Conference semifinal game in which AIC posted a 2-1 to advance to the quarterfinals.
