No. 16 Men's Soccer Runs Win Streak to Seven, Blanks Bentley

Box Score

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Sixteenth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University got goals from three different players and Joey Kapinos (Ludlow, Mass.) made three saves en route to the shutout as the Penmen downed Bentley University 3-0 in Northeast-10 men's soccer Tuesday night at Larkin Field.  The Penmen extended their win streak to seven games as they moved to 10-2 and 7-2 in the Northeast-10, while the Falcons are now 7-4-1 and 5-3 in the league.

Southern New Hampshire has also posted five straight shutouts.

The Penmen got on the board just 3:19 into the contest when Chris Tsonis (Dartmouth, Mass.) stole the ball from a Bentley defender, dribbled to the near right side of the box and fired a shot to the far left post past Falcon keeper Matt Reynolds for his team and Northeast-10 leading 10th goal of the season.

The hosts upped their lead to 2-0 54 seconds into the second half.  Mohamed Toufik (Grande Synthe, France) took a free kick on the left side and passed it back to Ruben Resendes (Fall River, Mass.) by the left flag.  Resendes sent a long crossing pass in that PJ Burnette (Brunswick, Maine) put home inside the near post for his fifth goal of the season.  It also marked the team-leading eighth assist of the year for Resendes and the fourth straight game he has recorded an assist.

The third Southern New Hampshire goal came with just over six minutes remaining.  Jayme Kapinos (Ludlow, Mass.) sent a long pass to Miguel Carneiro (New Milford, Conn.) just outside the 18.  Carneiro deked a defender and fired a line drive to the far right side of the goal for his first collegiate tally.

Joey Kapinos recorded his third shutout of the season with his three stops, while the Penmen also recorded a team save.  Reynolds, a native of Nashua, N.H. and graduate of Bishop Guertin HS, made six saves in the loss.  Southern New Hampshire outshot Bentley 16-7 and also took three corner kicks to none for the guests.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Southern Connecticut State University in a 4:00 contest at Larkin Field.
