MANCHESTER, N.H.—The Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to cross-town rival Saint Anselm College on Tuesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Melucci Field. With the loss, the Penmen end a three-game win streak and fall to 8-6-1 overall and 6-5-1 in NE-10 action, while the Hawks improve to 3-9-2 overall and 3-8-2 in league play.
Saint Anselm's Teresa Vercollone tallied the first goal of the game 10:05 into the game when she drew the Penmen defenders out and connected on the 15-yard shot. The Hawks would score back-to-back goals in the 25th and 29th minutes to carry the 3-0 advantage into the half. Siobhan Flaherty scored off a rebound shot by Kaitlin Oldfield, while Kelli Duggan scored her first goal of the season assisted by Jessica Ewald.
SNHU would tack a point on the board in the 53rd minute when Kasey Morrison (Hampton, N.H.) collected a loose ball off a corner kick taken by Ashley Jaskula (Palmer, Mass.). The Penmen would bring the game within one in the 77th minute when Daniela Abruzzese (Parsippany, N.J.) set up the long cross to Emily Fougere (Scituate, Mass.) who tallied her first collegiate goal.
Penmen goalkeeper Samantha Whittier (Sutton, Mass.) took the loss in net and did not record a save in 29:24 of work. She was relieved by Maggie Weldon (Manchester, N.H.) who made two saves in 60:36 of work. Hawks goalkeeper Gabriella Primera recorded five saves in the complete-game effort. The visiting Penmen outshot the Hawks 29-7 on the afternoon.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference action at 1:00 p.m. on Larkin Field.
