MANCHESTER, N.H. – No. 29 Southern New Hampshire University defeated Saint Michael's College 5-4 in Northeast-10 women's tennis Sunday afternoon at the SNHU courts. With the win, the Penmen clinch at least a share of their second-straight NE-10 regular season title and improve to 13-2 and 12-0 in league play. The Purple Knights are now 10-3 and 8-2 in the league.
SNHU becomes the first team to claim at least a share of the Northeast-10 regular season title in back-to-back seasons since Bryant University did so in 2006-07 and 2007-08. The Penmen, who have also locked up the No. 1 seed in the upcoming NE-10 Tournament, extended their winning streak in regular season conference matches to 29.
The Penmen earned their eighth straight victory of this season by capturing the top three singles matches and the top two doubles matches. In singles play, Amber Chandronnait (Bow, N.H.) was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 1, while Alena Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) was a 7-5, 6-0 winner at No. 2. Catalina Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) was a 6-0, 6-4 winner at No. 3.
In doubles play, Chandronnait and Echeverry were 8-4 winners at No. 1, while Mukdaprakorn and Kirsten Jean (Bedford, N.H.) were 8-5 winners at No. 2.
Southern New Hampshire wraps up the regular season Saturday when it hosts Franklin Pierce University in a 1;00 match.
