GOFFSTOWN, N.H. – Top-seeded Southern New Hampshire University captured its second Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis tournament title with a 5-2 victory over second-seeded Stonehill College at the Allard Center Saturday afternoon. The Penmen, who earn an automatic bid to next week's NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship, won their 12th straight match and improved to 17-2 overall. The Skyhawks, who saw a six-match win streak snapped, are now 18-3 and are NE-10 runners-up for the second straight year. Stonehill is expected to earn an NCAA at-large berth.
Seniors Amber Chandronnait (Bow, N.H.) and Catalina Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) and sophomore Alena Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) were all named to the All-Tournament Team for SNHU.
Southern New Hampshire jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the doubles competition. Chandronnait and Echeverry were 8-0 winners at No. 1, while Mukdaprakorn and Kirsten Jean (Bedford, N.H.) were 8-1 winners at No. 2.
In singles, the Penmen swept the top three spots to clinch the victory. Chandronnait was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 1, while Mukdaprakorn captured a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2. Echeverry clinched the match for SNHU with a hard-fought 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 3.
Southern New Hampshire has now won 34 straight matches against Northeast-10 opponents including the postseason. The Penmen will be making their third straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
