MANCHESTER, N.H. –Third-seeded Southern New Hampshire University advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis East Regional with a 5-0 win over No. 6 seed Adelphi University Sunday afternoon at The Derryfield School. SNHU extended its win streak to 13 matches and improves to 18-2, while the Panthers see their season come to a close at 18-5.
SNHU advances to face second-seeded Concordia (N.Y.) College, a 5-0 winner over No. 7 Holy Family University in Sunday's first match, Monday morning at 11:00 am at Derryfield. The winner of that match advances to Altamonte Springs, Fla. for the round of 16 on May 11.
The Penmen jumped out to a 3-0 lead by sweeping doubles. Amber Chandronnait (Bow, N.H.) and Catalina Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) were 8-0 winners at No. 1, while Alena Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) and Kirsten Jean (Bedford, N.H.) were 8-1 winners at No. 2. Samantha Jean (Bedford, N.H.) and Kara Pease (Falmouth, Mass.) were 8-3 winners at No. 3.
Chandronnait and Echeverry earned SNHU's singles points, with Chandronnait a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 1 and Echeverry a 6-0, 6-1 winner at third singles.
SNHU is making its third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and has won its first round match in each of the past three years. The Penmen will be looking to get past the second round for the first time in program history Monday.
