MANCHESTER, N.H. – Southern New Hampshire University defeated Le Moyne College 9-0 in Northeast-10 women's tennis Sunday afternoon. The match was the season opener for both teams.
The win marks the 31st straight regular season conference victory for the Penmen dating back to the 2008-09 season. Southern New Hampshire is the two-time defending NE-10 regular season and tournament champion.
In singles play, Alena Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 1, while junior transfer Amanda Albuquerque (Weymouth, Mass.) was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at No. 2. Freshmen Diana Vamvakitis (Wading River, N.Y.) and Jamie Hann (Westhampton, N.Y.) were winners at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, with Vamvakitis winning 6-0, 6-3 while Hann was a 6-2, 6-1 victor. Samantha Jean (Bedford, N.H.) was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 5 while younger sister Kirsten Jean was victorious 6-1, 6-0 at sixth singles.
In doubles action Mukdaprakorn and Albuquerque were 8-4 winners at No. 1, while Hann and Vamvakitis were 8-3 winners at No. 2. Samantha and Kirsten Jean were also 8-3 winners at third doubles.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Friday when it travels to Holy Family University for a 4:00 match.
