MANCHESTER, N.H.—Kasey Morrison (Hampton, N.H.) tied the game in 89th minute of regulation and then scored the game-winning goal 6:30 into overtime to lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team to a 4-3 overtime win in non-conference action against the Pioneers of C.W. Post. With the win, the Penmen improve to 3-3 on the season, while the Pioneers suffer their second loss of the season and fall to 3-2.
Morrison's game-winning goal in overtime came as she collected a pass from Ariel Teixeira (Warren, R.I.), dribbled around the diving C.W. Post goalkeeper, and tapped the ball safely into the net to solidify the win for the Penmen.
C.W. Post would score the first goal of the game at the 5:40 mark as Lina Harle drew SNHU goalkeeper Maggie Weldon (Manchester, N.H.) out of the net and then shot past her. SNHU would answer 32 seconds later, as Ashley Jaskula (Palmer, Mass.) collected a rebounded shot taken by Morrison and fired the ball to the top right corner, evening the score at 1-1. C.W. Post would tack on another goal in 18th minute of the game as Heidi Eikeland collected the ball from a SNHU defender and placed her shot just out of the reach of Weldon.
Entering the second half with a 2-1 lead, Prudence Rystrom headed a shot to the right post to take the 3-1 lead in the 52nd minute. Harle assisted on the goal.
In the 76th minute of the game, SNHU's Kaleigh Roberge (Manchester, N.H.) collected a feed from Teixiera and brought the game within reach at 3-2.
With 1:01 remaining in the game, C.W. Post goalkeeper Allie Weiser was warned for a delay of game. Teixeira quickly took advantage of the free kick, passing to Morrison who one-touched it into the net to force overtime.
Weldon posted four saves in the first half for the Penmen before giving way to Samantha Whittier (Sutton, Mass.) who made two saves in 51:30 of work. Weiser made 11 saves in net for the Pioneers in a complete-game effort as the Penmen outshot the Pioneers 23-18 on the afternoon, including a 12-6 advantage in the second half.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Tuesday, when it hosts Pace University at 7:00 p.m. in Northeast-10 Conference action at Larkin Field.
