Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Dominic Samuel (Toronto, Ontario) scored the game's lone goal and Dom DiMaggio (Rome, N.Y.) had three saves as No. 12 Southern New Hampshire University edged Southern Connecticut State University 1-0 in Northeast-10 men's soccer Friday night at Jess Dow Field. The Penmen improved to 11-2 and 7-2 in the NE-10, while the Owls are now 5-5-1 and 4-5-1 in the NE-10.
The win marked SNHU's first win at Southern Connecticut since a 2-0 triumph on October 22, 1988. The Penmen had gone 0-16-4 in their previous 20 trips to New Haven to take on the Owls.
Samuel recorded the game's lone goal in the 18th minute as he headed a crossing pass off a free kick by Christian Rodriguez (Manchester, N.H.) into the lower right corner of the goal. It was Samuel's second goal of the season.
DiMaggio picked up his sixth shutout of the season with his effort, while SCSU keeper Stephen Sasso recorded four saves. Both teams registered 10 shots on the evening, while the hosts had the game's only two corner kicks.
Southern New Hampshire kicks off a three-game homestand Wednesday night when it hosts No. 5 UMass Lowell in a 7:00 contest at Larkin Field.
