Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior Ashley Jaskula (Palmer, Mass.) scored twice as Southern New Hampshire University posted a 5-1 Northeast-10 women's soccer victory over Bentley University at Larkin Field Tuesday evening. The Penmen won their third in a row to improve to 7-3-1 and 5-3-1 in the NE-10, while the Falcons are now 3-5-2 and 1-5-2 in the league.
The five goals marked a season high for Southern New Hampshire and its most goals in a game since a 7-0 win over Concordia (N.Y.) College in the 2010 season opener.
The game remained scoreless until 1:55 left before halftime. On a restart, senior Daniela Abruzzese (Parsippany, N.J.) lifted a free kick from 35 yards that snuck under the crossbar and through the arms of Bentley keeper Christiana Hynds for the defender's second collegiate goal. The hosts took a 1-0 lead into the break.
Kaleigh Roberge (Manchester, N.H.) made it 2-0 5:19 into the second half when her shot from the top of the 18 glanced off the hands of Hynds then off the right post before trickling over the goal line. Jaskula scored the first of her two goals in the 60th minute when she took a pass from Emily Fougere (Scituate, Mass.) and bent in a goal from 12 yards to make it 3-0.
The Falcons got on the board at the 67:10 mark when Katie Moroney sent in a long free kick from near midfield and Laura Muise headed it home for her first goal of the season. Jaskula struck again in the 76th minute when she collected a header pass from Roberge and found herself alone against Bentley relief keeper Nicole Derba, beating her to make it 4-1. Freshman Morgan Branco (Norton, Mass.) notched her first collegiate goal with 3:47 left when her soft shot past Derba, who had come out to play her at the top of the box, trickled over the goal line before a Bentley defender could clear it. Jennifer Arnold (South Burlington, Vt.) assisted on the tally.
Weldon did not make a save en route to the win. Hynds took the loss in goal for Bentley, allowing three goals and making eight saves before giving way to Derba for the final 17:33. Derba allowed two goals without making a stop. The Penmen outshot Bentley 23-4 on the evening.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Saturday afternoon when it hosts Le Moyne College in a 4:00 Northeast-10 contest at Larkin Field.
