Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The 20th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team scored three times in the second half en route to a 4-1 Northeast-10 victory over American International College Friday night at Abdow Field. The Penmen wrap up the regular season 14-3 overall and 10-3 in the NE-10, while the Yellow Jackets now stand 5-10-2 and 5-6-2 in the league.
The win, coupled with a 2-0 loss by UMass Lowell at Stonehill earlier Friday, moved the Penmen into the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Championship. Southern New Hampshire will host seventh-seeded Southern Connecticut State University (8-6-1, 6-6-1) in a quarterfinal Monday, October 29, with game time to be announced in the near future.
SNHU broke a 1-1 tie 4:06 into the second half on a goal by Jordan Branco (Norton, Mass.). Branco took a pass from Keegan Campbell (Norton, Mass.) and fired from the top of the box for his fifth goal of the season.
The Penmen sealed the victory with a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes. Mohamed Toufik (Grande Synthe, France) converted a penalty kick at 81:11 for his fifth goal of the season, while Chris Tsonis (Dartmouth, Mass.) netted his 12th goal of the season in the 89th minute off a feed from Christian Rodriguez (Manchester, N.H.).
American International staked itself to a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute when Conor Doyle scored, with Alan Mehmedovic assisting on the tally. Southern New Hampshire tied the contest 3:17 before intermission when Dominic Samuel (Toronto, Ontario) converted a diving header off a corner kick by Miguel Carneiro (New Milford, Conn.).
Dom DiMaggio (Rome N.Y.) made two saves in goal for Southern New Hampshire, while Yellow Jacket keeper Jason Ryan made 12 stops as the Penmen outshot AIC 30-7. The guests also had all eight corner kicks in the game.
SNHU topped Southern Connecticut 1-0 when the two teams met during the regular season in New Haven, Conn.
