Box Score LOWELL, Mass. – Senior Kaleigh Roberge (Manchester, N.H.) scored twice, including the game-winner 5:17 into overtime, as Southern New Hampshire University downed No. 23 UMass Lowell in Northeast-10 women's soccer Wednesday night at Cushing Field. The Penmen won their third straight to improve to 4-1 and 2-1 in the NE-10, while the River Hawks are now 1-2-1 and 0-2 in the league.
Southern New Hampshire is off to its best start since 1997 when the Penmen also opened 4-1.
In overtime, Roberge took a pass from Kasey Morrison (Hampton, N.H.), split a pair of River Hawk defenders and fired into the left side of the goal for her fourth goal and second overtime game-winner of the season.
The Penmen staked themselves to a 1-0 lead when Roberge scored in the 27th minute. Gabby Cappello (Andover, Mass.) played a ball over to Roberge who found herself all alone against UML keeper Jane Hatzikonstantis on the left side. UMass Lowell tied the game with just over 21 minutes to play when Selja Snorradottir scored following a scramble in front of the Southern New Hampshire goal.
Maggie Weldon (Manchester, N.H.) did not make a save en route to the victory while Hatzikonstantis turned aside three shots. The Penmen outshot their hosts 11-7, including a 9-1 advantage in the second half and overtime.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Saturday when it travels to top-ranked and defending Division II national champion The College of Saint Rose for a 1:00 match.
