Box Score 2 DOBBS FERRY, N.Y.- The Southern New Hampshire volleyball team went undefeated this weekend when it traveled to Mercy College for a tri-match Saturday afternoon. With the wins, SNHU improves to 6-4 overall and has won five straight matches since its 3-1 setback against NYIT last weekend.
The Penmen completed the weekend sweep when they beat both Goldey-Beacom College and Mercy College 3-0. SNHU also collected a 3-0 win against Nyack Friday night to win 12 straight sets for a perfect weekend of play.
In the first game of the day, the Penmen triumphed over the Lightning with set scores of 25-13, 25-18, and 25-16.
Erica Solomon (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) led the Penmen in the first game while totaling a team-high 11 kills and 12 digs. Libero Kendra Mikuta (Orland Park, Ill.) added 11 digs in the three sets. Maeghan Higgins (Hesperia, Calif.) tallied five kills, 10 digs, and four service aces for SNHU. Setter Catherine Cotton (Murphy, Texas) added a match-high 37 assists for the Penmen.
Kadi McCoy led the Lightning with a match-high 12 kills. She also added eight digs for Goldey-Beacom. Monica Dempsey totaled 16 digs on the day, while Jamika Townsend dished out 19 assists.
The Penmen would sweep Mercy in the second game of the day with set scores of 25-1, 26-24, and 25-16.
Emma Houlihan (Shoreham, N.Y.) was the offensive power in the second game while totaling 10 kills for the Penmen. Mikuta notched a match-best 12 digs, while Cotton added 26 assists.
For the Mavericks, Brenna White posted 13 kills along with seven digs. McKenna Ronan added a match-best 33 assists while Nicole Pepe tallied 10 kills.
The Penmen return to action Tuesday, September 18 when they travel to Merrimack for a non-conference 7:00 p.m. match. The Penmen return home the following Tuesday, September 25, to host Saint Michael's for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference match.
