Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – Freshman Hannah Weagle scored five minutes into the first overtime to lift Franklin Pierce University to a 2-1 win over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 women's soccer Monday evening at Larkin Field. The Ravens, who posted their first win over SNHU since the 2009 season, improved to 2-0 and 1-0 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 1-1 and 0-1 in the league.
Weagle took a short pass from Caroline Savasta and from the top right corner of the 18 lifted a high shot that snuck in high and inside the far left post. It marked Weagle's third goal of the season.
Franklin Pierce took a 1-0 lead just 2:37 into the contest. An initial shot attempt by Weagle was stopped by SNHU keeper Maggie Weldon (Manchester, N.H.), but Aya Noguchi collected the rebound and put it past Weldon. The Penmen would answer just past the eight-minute mark when Alyssa Balboni (East Longmeadow, Mass.) headed home a left-to-right corner kick off the foot of senior Kaleigh Roberge (Manchester, N.H.). The assist gave Roberge her 50th career point.
Casey Edward totaled four saves in goal for Franklin Pierce, while Roberge turned aside six shots. Southern New Hampshire outshot Franklin Pierce 14-12, but just one Penmen shot came after halftime as SNHU generated a 13-5 advantage in the first half. The hosts also held a 6-2 corner kick advantage.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Wednesday night when it hosts No. 12 University of Bridgeport in a 7:00 non-conference contest at Larkin Field. Wednesday's game is the second half of a doubleheader against the Purple Knights, as the seventh-ranked men's squad takes on UB at 4:00 at Larkin Field.
