THE MATCHUP: Southern New Hampshire opens up Northeast-10 Conference play when it hosts Assumption College Saturday afternoon for a 1:00 p.m. game.
THE COACHES: Paul Calkins is in his 25th year as head coach. A former two-sport athlete at SNHU, he led the Penmen to a 7-4 record in his rookie season and followed up with an 8-3 campaign in 1990. The eight wins tied the school record for most victories in a season. Calkins lettered in lacrosse and hockey while a student at SNHU and totaled eight goals and 16 assists for the 1984 lacrosse team that finished 5-5. Keith Loftis was named as the Assumption men's lacrosse head coach on August 8, 2012 and enters his first season in 2013... Loftis came to Assumption from Wheaton College where he served as the assistant coach for the 2012 season.
THE SERIES: Southern New Hampshire holds a 23-5 overall record over Assumption College. The Penmen defeated the Greyhounds on the road by a score of 13-9 last season.
THE PENMEN: SNHU is coming off a 9-8 loss to No. 8 LIU Post Wednesday...freshman Cameron Joyce leads the Penmen with eight goals and two assists for 10 points...John Cuozzo has totaled two goals and five assists for seven points, while Jeremy Buckley adds five goals...Crosby Nicholson has started all four contests while making 39 saves in net for SNHU.
THE GREYHOUNDS: Assumption is coming off a 14-4 loss at Dowling last week...Tim Casey and Ty Martina lead the Greyhounds offense with four points apiece...Casey has totaled four goals on the season, while Martina has added three goals and one assist...Garrett Smith has also contributed two goals and one assist for Assumption...in net for the Greyhounds, Will Contento has started all three games while making 38 saves.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Penmen return to action on Saturday, March 23 when they host Pace University for a 1:00 p.m. conference game on Larkin Field.
