MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team opened its 2013-14 campaign with an 8-1 win at Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 play Tuesday afternoon. The match was the season opener for both squads.
The Penmen jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play and captured five of the six singles matches. In doubles action, Allison Valentine (New Hartford, Conn.) and Elizabeth Worth (Long Valley, N.J.) pulled out a 9-8 (7-2) win at No. 3, while Diana Vamvakitis (Wading River, N.Y.) and Jamie Hann (Westhampton, N.Y.) were 8-1 winners at No. 1. Yolanda Green (Springfield, Mass.) and Kirsten Jean (Bedford, N.H.) posted an 8-4 win at No. 2.
Vamvakitis and Hann were each 6-0, 6-0 winners at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively.
Southern New Hampshire is back in action this weekend when it travels to Philadelphia for the ITA East Regional.
