Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – Ashley Jaskula (Palmer, Mass.) scored a minute into the second half to lift Southern New Hampshire University to a 2-1 women's soccer victory over Queens (N.Y.) College Wednesday afternoon at Larkin Field. The Penmen upped their record to 3-1-1 on the season, while the Knights now stand 3-2 overall.
With the game knotted 1-1 at intermission, the Penmen, who trailed 1-0 earlier, took the lead exactly one minute into the second half. Bethi Ledoux (Westborough, Mass.) played a through ball to Jaskula in the middle of the field. Jaskula collected the feed and fired on Queens keeper Mersina Onesto, who had come out. Onesto got a piece of the shot, but it trickled across the goal line for Jaskula's third goal of the season.
Queens staked itself to a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute. Kristina Ikonomou sent a right-to-left free kick into the box that after a deflection, Lorena Russi collected and fired home her fourth goal of the season. The lead was short-lived, as 2:18 later, freshman Trisha Luis (Lowell, Mass.) scored her second goal of the season off a right-to-left corner kick from classmate Alexa Poulin (Tewksbury, Mass.). The two teams entered halftime tied 1-1.
SNHU keeper Samantha Whittier (Sutton, Mass.) made one save, while Onesto turned aside three shots as both teams attempted seven shots on the afternoon. The hosts recorded six of the game's eight corner kicks.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Saturday afternoon when it hosts second-ranked The College of Saint Rose for a 2:00 game at Larkin Field.
