WORCESTER, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire University downed Assumption College 6-3 in Northeast-10 women's tennis Thursday afternoon. The Penmen improved to 2-0 overall and in the NE-10, while the Greyhounds are now 0-2 and 0-1 in the league.
SNHU opened the match by taking two of three doubles matches. Diana Vamvakitis (Wading River, N.Y.) and Jamie Hann (Westhampton, N.Y.) were 8-4 winners at No. 1, while Yolanda Green (Springfield, Mass.) and Kirsten Jean (Bedford, N.H.) teamed up for an 8-1 win at No. 2.
In singles play, Green dropped the first set 6-4 to Assumption's Cassy Waung at No. 4 before rallying for a 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 win. Vamvakitis was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 1, while Hann and Jean also recorded points for the Penmen.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Saturday when it travels to Le Moyne College for a Northeast-10 match. The Penmen home opener is set for Sunday, September 29, when SNHU hosts Post University in an 11:00 am non-league contest.
