Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team was blanked 3-0 by No. 10 St. Michael's in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey play at Larkin Field on Saturday. The Penmen fall to 1-9 and 0-3 in the Northeast-10, while the Purple Knights are now 8-3 and remain perfect in the NE-10 at 4-0.
Saint Michael's opened the scoring 3:55 into the first half when senior Cassaundra Davis (Newburyport, Mass.) connected on her 10th goal of the season off a feed from junior Megan Deschaine (Claremont, N.H.). The Purple Knights extended their lead just under eight minutes later, as Deschaine set up sophomore Abby Dusha (Greenwich, N.Y.) to make it 2-0 with 23:13 remaining before the half. Senior Amy Kangas (East Sandwich, Mass.) would cap the scoring three minutes later when she found the back of the cage off a centering feed from Dusha.
The Southern New Hampshire defense was able hold the Purple Knights offense to zero shots on goal in the second half. Penmen freshman Cassandra Nickerson (Newton, N.H) stopped three of six shots in the setback, while Purple Knights keeper senior Jackie Chisholm (New Braintree, Mass.) recorded a shutout in the victory.
Southern New Hampshire is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts Adelphi University at 6 p.m. on Larkin Field. Saint Michael's is off until Saturday, October 25 when it makes the trip to Assumption College for a 4 p.m. face-off with the Greyhounds.
