Field Hockey Stung by Yellow Jackets

Box Score

MANCHESTER, N.H. -  The Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to American International College at Larkin Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Penmen fall to 1-12 on the season and 0-6 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Yellow Jackets improve to 7-6 overall and now own a 3-3 conference mark.

Freshman Jill Piacitelli (East Greenwich, R.I.) registered double-digit saves for the third consecutive game, as she turned aside 24 of 28 shots on goal from the Yellow Jacket offense. Piacitelli recorded 10 saves in the second half against Saint Anselm College on Saturday after stopping 12 shots against Adelphi University on Oct. 21. The 24 saves beat her previous personal record of 23, which was set against Franklin Pierce on October 14.

After a goal by AIC freshman Liv Magni (Sweet Valley, Pa.), SNHU freshman Amaris Taylor (Tulsa, Okla.) evened the score with just under a minute left in the opening half. After Penmen junior Austen Theroux (Goffstown, N.H.) drove in on goal and earned a penalty stroke, Taylor stepped up and ripped a shot high to the stick side for her second goal of the season to send the teams to the half tied at one.

Just over three minutes into the second half, the Yellow Jackets reclaimed the lead off a penalty stroke of their own. Junior Kaylin Harbin (Stroudsburg, Pa.) stepped to the line flicked a shot to the top-right corner, giving AIC a 2-1 edge. Senior Jessica Masionis (Ashland, Mass.) closed out the scoring by tacking on a pair of goals to give the Yellow Jackets the 4-1 victory.

Harbin finished with a goal and an assist for AIC and junior Ainslee Penfield (Greenfield, Mass.) stopped three shots to earn the win in goal.

SNHU will hit the road for its next three games, starting with a trip to Franklin Pierce on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start. The Penmen return home on Nov. 12 with a match-up against Southern Connecticut. AIC starts a two game homestand Saturday as its hosts Bentley University at 4 p.m.
