Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. — The Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team fell in its season finale on Saturday to Bentley University by a final score of 1-0. The Penmen close out their inaugural season with a record of 1-17 and an 0-11 mark in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Falcons improve to 10-8 and 6-5 in league play.
Prior to the start of Saturday's contest, Southern New Hampshire recognized seniors Alanna Lovejoy (Derry, N.H.), Sara Backoff (Danbury, N.H.) and Sara Dalba (Malden, Mass.) during an on-field ceremony in honor of their final collegiate field hockey games.
After a scoreless first half, the two teams remained deadlocked at zero for most of the second stanza. With 4:17 remaining in regulation, junior Meghan Talerman (Centerville, Mass.) tapped home a cross from senior Gina Linage (Auburn, Mass.) to provide all the offense the Falcons would need.
Freshman Jill Piacitelli (East Greenwich, R.I.) recorded nine saves in goal for Southern New Hampshire, including six in the second half. Her counterpart, junior Katie Kelley (Walpole, Mass.) turned aside a pair of shots to earn the victory.
