GOFFSTOWN, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule with a 6-3 triumph over Division I Holy Cross Sunday evening at the Allard Center. The Penmen remained unbeaten as they upped their record to 6-0, while the Crusaders now stand at 5-4.
The win puts seventh-year head coach Greg Coache one win shy of 100 for his career. He has posted a 99-31 career mark as head coach of the Penmen women.
In doubles action, Diana Vamvakitis (Wading River, N.Y.) and Sarah Schollgen were 8-4 winners at No. 1, while Kirsten Jean (Bedford, N.H.) and Jamie Hann (Westhampton, N.Y.) posted an 8-4 victory at No. 2. Schollgen, who was making her debut for the Penmen after joining the team at the semester break, was also victorious at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Taylor Stathis.
Vamvakitis was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 2 singles, while Hann was a 6-3, 6-3 victor at No. 3. Jean rallied for a 4-6, 7-5 (12-10) win at No. 4 singles over Molly Montgomery.
Southern New Hampshire is back in action Saturday when it travels to No. 13 NYIT for a 3:00 match.
