GOFFSTOWN, N.H. – Junior Diana Vamvakitis (Wading River, N.Y.) was a double winner on the evening, but No. 32 Queens (N.Y.) College posted a 7-2 non-conference women's tennis victory over Southern New Hampshire University Saturday evening at the Allard Center. The Knights, who are also ranked No. 2 in the East Region, upped their record to 14-2, while the Penmen, who are No. 8 in the region, are now 8-4.
In doubles play, Vamvakitis and Sarah Schöllgen (Meerbusch, Germany) teamed up to defeat Aylin Mehter and Yevgeniya Plevako, the No. 13-ranked doubles tandem in Division II, 8-5. The duo is also the top-ranked doubles team in the region. Vamvakitis, the No. 12 singles player in the East, also downed Mehter, the No. 6-ranked singles player in the region, at No. 1 singles by a 7-5, 6-4 score.
Southern New Hampshire is scheduled to return to action Thursday afternoon when it hosts Stonehill College in a rematch of the previous four Northeast-10 Championship finals. That match is slated for a 3:00 start at the SNHU courts.
