MANCHESTER, N.H. – Southern New Hampshire University downed Bentley University 6-3 in Northeast-10 women's tennis Saturday afternoon at the SNHU courts. The Penmen won their fourth straight to improve to 12-5 overall and 8-2 in the NE-10, while the Falcons are now 7-8 and 6-3 in the league.
The Penmen jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles, as Diana Vamvakitis (Wading River, N.Y.) and Sarah Schöllgen (Meerbusch, Germany) were 8-4 winners at No. 1. Jamie Hann (Westhampton, N.Y.) and Kirsten Jean (Bedford, N.H.) were 8-1 winners at No. 2.
Vamvakitis, Schöllgen and Jean were all double winners on the day, with Vamvakitis remaining unbeaten in NE-10 singles play with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1. Schöllgen was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 2, while Jean prevailed 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4. Yolanda Green (Springfield, Mass.) posted a 6-3, 7-5 singles triumph at No. 5.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Sunday when it travels to Saint Michael's College for a 1:00 Northeast-10 contest. The Penmen can secure a top-four seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Championship with a victory.
