MANCHESTER, N.H. – Trailing 2-1 after doubles, Stonehill College took five of six singles matches to record a 6-3 Northeast-10 women's tennis victory over Southern New Hampshire University Thursday afternoon at the SNHU courts. The Skyhawks improved to 15-3 and 9-0 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 8-5 and 4-2 in the league.
SNHU jumped out to a 2-1 lead in doubles play. Diana Vamvakitis (Wading River, N.Y.) and Sarah Schöllgen (Meerbusch, Germany) notched an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, while Jamie Hann (Westhampton, N.Y.) and Kirsten Jean (Bedford, N.H.) prevailed 9-8 (8-6) in a hard-fought match at No. 2.
Vamvakitis registered the lone Penmen point in singles action, posting a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) win at No. 1. Schöllgen posted a 6-3 win in the first set at No. 2 before falling 3-6, 6-3, 6-1, while Hann forced a third set at No. 3 before falling 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Saturday when it hosts the University of New Haven in a 1:00 Northeast-10 match.
