MANCHESTER, N.H. – Susanne Vistnes tallied a goal and an assist to lead LIU Post to a 2-1 non-conference women's soccer victory over Southern New Hampshire University Wednesday afternoon at Larkin Field. The Pioneers upped their record to 3-1, while the Penmen now stand 2-2-1 on the season.
LIU Post staked itself to a 1-0 lead with just over eight minutes remaining in the first half. Following a scramble in front of the Penmen goal after a left-to-right corner kick, Vistnes knocked home a loose ball for her first goal of the season.
The Pioneers added an insurance goal with 5:21 remaining in the game when Julia Backman knocked home a right-to-left cross from Vistnes.
The insurance tally proved critical, as Southern New Hampshire got on the board with 1:25 left. Alexa Poulin (Tewksbury, Mass.) collected a bobbled crossing pass by Pioneer keeper Hreffie Agnarsdottir and fired it home for her first goal of the season. Olivia Parsons (Plymouth, Mass.) was credited with an assist on the play.
Agnarsdottir made three saves, while Penmen counterpart Autumn Scanlon (Waltham, Mass.) stopped eight shots as the Pioneers outshot Southern New Hampshire 17-9. The hosts also took four of the game's five corner kicks.
Southern New Hampshire hits the road Saturday to face top-ranked The College of Saint Rose in a 1:00 match in Albany, N.Y.
