Box Score COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to Northeast-10 foe Saint Michael's College during non-conference play on Friday. The Penmen move to 1-2 on the season, while the Purple Knights even their record at 2-2.
Senior Cassaundra Davis (Newburyport, Mass.), junior Morgan Mazanec (Shelburne, Mass.) and sophomore Carolyn Avery (Lexington, Mass.) each registered a goal for Saint Michael's. Senior Samantha Burns (North Creek, N.Y.) and junior Megan Deschiane (Claremont, N.H.) chipped in with assists, while senior Jackie Chisholm (New Braintree, Mass.) earned a shutout in the Purple Knights' cage.
Junior Cassandra Nickerson (Newton, N.H.) recorded 11 saves in the setback for SNHU, including seven in the second half. The Penmen were outshot 25-3 in the contest and Saint Michael's held a 15-3 edge in penalty corners.
Davis opened up the scoring just under six minutes into the contest when she collected her second goal of the season. Mazanec extended the lead to a pair at 17:48 after she corralled a Burns tip and tucked inside the left post.
The game would remain scoreless for the remainder of the first half and the majority of the second, until Deschiane put a shot on cage that Avery redirected into the goal with 1:17 left to play.
The Penmen are in action again on Sunday, when they welcome Dowling College to Larkin Field for a noontime start. Saint Michael's will host the Golden Lions on Saturday at 4 p.m.
