HOLDEN, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire University recorded a 6-3 Northeast-10 women's tennis victory over Assumption College Wednesday afternoon at Wachusett Regional High School. The Penmen upped their record to 2-1 overall and in NE-10 play, while the Greyhounds are 3-5 and 3-3 in the league.
Senior Diana Vamvakitis (Wading River, N.Y.) moved into a tie for third place on both the program career singles and doubles lists on Wednesday. With her 63rd career singles win, she moved into a tie with Catalina Echeverry on that list, while her 64 doubles wins also ties her with Echeverry for third in program history in that category.
The Penmen jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play, with Vamvakitis and Ashley Loft (Leysin, Switzerland) posting an 8-2 win at No. 1. Jamie Hann (Westhampton, N.Y.) and Lindsay Baum (North Salem, N.Y.) were victorious by an 8-5 count at No. 2.
Vamvakitis was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at No. 1 singles, with Loft, Yolanda Green (Springfield, Mass.) and Baum all picking up singles triumphs to round out the victory.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Thursday afternoon when it travels to Saint Anselm College for a 3:00 Northeast-10 matchup.
