Box Score RINDGE, N.H. – Junior Morgan Branco (Norton, Mass.) scored a pair of second half goals as Southern New Hampshire University posted a 3-1 non-conference women's soccer victory over Dominican (N.Y.) College in the second round of the Franklin Pierce Tournament Saturday at Sodexo Field. The Penmen improve to 2-0-0 on the season, while the Chargers are 0-2-0 thus far.
Leading 1-0 at halftime, Southern New Hampshire took a 2-0 lead 11:09 into the second half when Branco scored her first goal of the game. She fired a shot that glanced off Charger keeper Gina Yannette and trickled across the goal line as Yannette recovered to try to make the save. It marked Branco's first goal of the season.
Dominican halved the lead in the 67th minute as Jennifer Becker took a pass from Kaitlyn Montera and fired it home to make it 2-1. Branco pushed the lead back to two for the Penmen with just under 13 minutes to play as her shot from the top of the 18 snuck inside the left post near Yannette. Rianna Fasanello (East Bridgewater, Mass.) recorded an assist on the play.
Freshman Alena Woodarek (Springville, N.Y.) staked Southern New Hampshire to a 1-0 lead at the 25:18 mark when her sliding kick found the bottom right corner for her second goal of the season.
Southern New Hampshire keeper Autumn Scanlon (Waltham, Mass.) made a pair of saves en route to the victory, while Yannette made 12 saves as the Penmen outshot the Chargers 30-6.
SNHU plays its home opener on Wednesday, September 10 when it hosts the University of Bridgeport for a 4:00 contest on Larkin Field.
