Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – Calli Balfour and Ashley Gomez each finished with 14 points as No. 11/15 Adelphi University topped Southern New Hampshire University 84-50 in Northeast-10 women's basketball Wednesday evening at the SNHU Fieldhouse. The Panthers upped their record to 16-2 and 9-2 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 10-9 and 4-8 in league play.
Balfour also grabbed 11 rebounds and went 7-9 from the floor, while Gomez was 5-8 off the bench. Kelly Mannix added 10 points and six rebounds for the Panthers.
Southern New Hampshire was led by sophomore Sara Ryan (Quincy, Mass.) who tallied 13 points on 5-12 shooting. Olivia Conrad (Hanover, Mass.) added nine points off the bench, while Catherine Stinson (Lynn, Mass.) and Brooke Springfield (Jaffrey, N.H.) contributed eight points apiece.
Adelphi never trailed and used an 8-0 run capped by a Sierra Clark basket at the 8:28 mark to build a 10-point lead, 23-13. The Panthers closed out the first half on a 15-2 run and a Samantha Brenner layup with five seconds left gave the guests a 45-21 halftime lead.
Ryan scored the first 10 points of the second half to pull the Penmen within 14, 45-31, with 17:03 to go, and SNHU got within 13, 47-34, on a Chelsea Dunham (Johnson, Vt.) basket with 16:01 left. Adelphi scored the next six points to open up a 19-point cushion, and gradually pulled away, leading by as many as 36 down the stretch.
Adelphi shot 59.4% in the first half and 48.6% for the game while limiting the Penmen to 30.4% shooting. In a game that saw 48 fouls called, SNHU was 21-34 at the free throw line, while Adelphi went 10-19, and the Panthers held a 47-35 rebounding advantage.
Southern New Hampshire is back in action Saturday when it travels to Le Moyne College for a noon tipoff.
