Box Score SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Vandell Andrade totaled 20 points as Le Moyne College defeated Southern New Hampshire University 85-68 in Northeast-10 women's basketball Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Court. The Dolphins upped their record to 14-5 and 8-4 in the NE-10, while the Penmen now stand 10-10 and 4-9 in the league.
Andrade finished 9-10 from the floor and also grabbed six rebounds. Alex Marple totaled 17 points, while Tessa Pucello went 4-4 behind the arc and added 13 points off the bench. Bath-Sheba McMahon registered 11 points and 17 rebounds.
Southern New Hampshire was led by Victoria Wiseman (Montreal, Quebec), who made her first start of the season and finished with 18 points. Kaylea Griffin (Green Springs, Ohio) and Catherine Stinson (Lynn, Mass.) added 12 points apiece for the Penmen, while Brooke Springfield (Jaffrey, N.H.) recorded 11 points and five assists.
The two teams traded the lead three times in the early going before the Dolphins took the lead for good on an Andrade layup 3:19 into the game to make it 8-7. Le Moyne scored 10 straight points to open up a 23-11 lead at the 12:39 mark, and took its largest lead of the first half, 37-23, with 9:08 to go. SNHU cut the lead to nine three times and a Jennifer Shelp (Apalachin, N.Y.) basket with three seconds to go made it 46-37 at halftime.
Le Moyne scored the first six points of the second half to stretch its lead to 15, and took a 20-point lead, 64-44, with 11:45 to go. The Penmen scored six straight, with an Erin Doherty (Marshfield, Mass.) layup with 8:14 to go make it 64-50, but that would be as close as the guests would come.
Le Moyne shot 53.8% for the contest and knocked down seven of its 16 three-point attempts, while going 8-12 at the foul line. The Penmen shot 40.6% for the game, including a 4-9 effort behind the arc, and made 17 trips to the free throw line, sinking 12. The Dolphins outrebounded Southern New Hampshire 37-33 on the afternoon.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Tuesday night when it travels to No. 25 University of New Haven for a 7:30 Northeast-10 contest at Charger Gymnasium.
