A three-goal first half buoyed Saint Michael's College to a 4-1 victory over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at Duffy Field on Tuesday. The Purple Knights improve to 5-7 and 2-5 in the NE-10, while the Penmen move to 2-11 and 0-8 in league play.
Saint Michael's opened up the scoring 7:21 into the contest when Micaele Heil put home a rebound attempt for her first goal of the season before Morgan Mazanec doubled the lead 10 minutes later. Micaela Hajduk closed the first half scoring with just under seven minutes to play when she converted a feed from Mackenzie Hudson to give the hosts a 3-0 advantage at intermission.
Southern New Hampshire was able to trim the deficit to 3-1 less than five minutes into the second. Sophomore Amaris Taylor (Tulsa, Okla.) tallied her fourth goal of the year, as she hammered a feed from classmate Erin Frost (East Andover, N.H.) to the far post that beat goalkeeper Abigail Bowie.
The score remained unchanged until 5:15 remaining in regulation when Mazanec tipped home an Abby Dusha shot to provide the final margin of victory.
Sophomore Jill Piacitelli (East Greenwich, R.I.) stopped seven shots in the setback, and freshman Lindsey Poirier (South Berwick, Maine) notched a defensive save for the Penmen. Bowie turned aside six shots for the Purple Knights, while Maddy Dobecki picked up a defensive save in the triumph.
Notes:
- Southern New Hampshire held a 6-4 edge in penalty corners during the second half, but trailed 12-7 in the game.
- Saint Michael's maintained a 21-14 advantage in shots, including a 12-8 mark in shots on goal.

The Penmen are back in action on Thursday when they host Merrimack College in Southern New Hampshire's Play 4 the Cure game at 7 p.m.
