GOFFSTOWN, N.H. – Southern New Hampshire University posted an impressive 8-1 victory over the University of the District of Columbia in non-conference women's tennis Saturday evening at the Allard Center. The Penmen upped their record to 12-3, while the Firebirds now stand 7-5 on the season.
The Penmen jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles, with UDC forced to forfeit at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles due to having only five players. Diana Vamvakitis (Wading River, N.Y.) and Ashley Loft (Leysin, Switzerland) were 8-5 winners at No. 1, while Jamie Hann (Westhampton, N.Y.) and Sarah Schöllgen (Meerbusch, Germany) were 8-4 victors at No. 2.
In singles action, Vamvakitis, Loft, Schöllgen and Yolanda Green (Springfield, Mass.) all won, with only Loft being taken to a third set.
Southern New Hampshire is idle until Friday, April 3, when it hosts Chestnut Hill College in a 4:00 match.
