The Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team picked up a key victory over Merrimack Sunday afternoon.
The Penmen took a 2-1 lead after doubles. Rachel Wagner (Framingham, Mass.) and Lindsay Baum (North Salem, N.Y.) pulled out an 8-5 win at No. 3, while Ashley Loft (Leysin, Switzerland) and Kaitlin Poje (East Stroudsburg, Pa.) were 8-1 winners at No. 2.
In singles action, Loft was a three-set winner at No. 2, notching a 6-2 win in the third set. The Penmen were also strong at the bottom of the lineup, with Poje winning 6-3, 4-0 at No. 4 before Mana Seifaei was forced to retire. Baum was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at No. 5, while Wagner posted a 7-5, 7-5 win at No. 6.
Notes:
- The Warriors were picked third in the Northeast-10 preseason poll, while the Penmen were selected fourth.
- SNHU now sits third in the NE-10 standings, behind unbeaten Adelphi and Assumption.
