Sophomore Melanie Rennie (Madison, Conn.) stopped nine shots, but three Assumption College goals in a four-minute stretch to open the second half lifted the Greyhounds to a 4-1 win over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action on Wednesday.
The hosts jumped out to a 1-0 lead less than nine minutes into the first after Belle Ives emerged from a scrum in front of the net with the game's first goal, and a lead Assumption would carry through the remainder of the first.
After the score remained unchanged for the first 3:50 of the second, the Greyhounds put the game out of reach with three goals to open the half. Kristin McCarthy started the run with an unassisted marker before Meghan Sullivan tipped in a cross from Ives 1:39 later. Ives capped the scoring with her second of the evening at 42:22 to extend the Greyhound advantage to four.
The Penmen cracked the scoreboard late in regulation, as sophomore Cassidy Huckins (Boscawen, N.H.) buried a feed from freshman Laura van der Doorn (Beverwijk, The Netherlands) with 4:21 left to play.
Notes:
- After being held without a point through the first nine contests of the season, Huckins has now tallied five points in her last three games.
