Freshman Alison Hildreth (Hampton, N.H.) scored her first career goal as time expired to lift Southern New Hampshire University to a 2-1 victory over No. 1 LIU Post in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium on Friday.
With time winding down in a 1-1 contest, the Penmen worked a pair of penalty corners. After the Pioneers stopped the initial corner, Hildreth redirected a shot from junior Amaris Taylor (Tulsa, Okla.) past Ericka Parks on the second attempt as time expired to give SNHU its first-ever win over a nationally ranked opponent.
The hosts staked themselves to a 1-0 lead just over 21 minutes into the contest, as Emily Miller cleaned up a rebound off a Melissa Quintanilla shot.
Southern New Hampshire wasted little time in responding, with Taylor tallying the equalizer 10:36 later. Sophomore Maddie Holt (Seabrook, N.H.) keyed the play, as she drew Parks out of the cage before feeding Taylor, who deposited her fourth of the year to send the teams to intermission with the score tied.
Sophomore Melanie Rennie (Madison, Conn.) anchored the Penmen defense with 12 saves, 10 of which came in the opening 35 minutes of play, while Parks stopped one shot for the Pioneers.
