Graduate student Abla Chadli (Rabat, Morocco) and sophomores Sofia Morais (Porto, Portugal) and Anna Sala (Matadepera, Spain) did not lose a game in their singles matches as the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team made quick work of Franklin Pierce in an 8-1 win Tuesday.
Chadli defeated Alana Wyatt, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, Morais blanked Sonia Rodrigues, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Sala was also a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 3 singles against Kara Brazel.
Sophomore Rachel Wagner (Framingham, Mass.) downed Sarah Rich, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4 singles, while freshman Catherine LaChance (Wilbraham, Mass.) beat Maria Quagliano, 8-2, at No. 6 singles.
The Penmen started off the day strong in doubles play, as Morais and fellow sophomore Kaitlyn Poje (E. Stroudsburg, Pa.) recorded an 8-1 victory against Wyatt and Rodrigues at No. 1 doubles. Chadli and Sala triumphed over Brazel and Quagliano by the same 8-1 score at No. 2 doubles, with Wagner and junior Lindsay Baum (N. Salem, N.Y.) shutting out Rich and Kelly O'Donnell, 8-0.
Notes:
-Junior Jacqueline Youngdahl (N. Providence, R.I.) kept her No. 5 singles match close against O'Donnell, but fell, 8-6.
