Keally Ingersoll tallied a goal and an assist as Bentley University defeated the Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Larkin Field.
Bentley grabbed a 1-0 lead early in the 19th minute as Tori Ellis' initial shot from the right side of the circle was stopped by SNHU goalkeeper Melanie Rennie (Madison, Conn.), but the rebound returned to the stick of Ellis, who sent a long shot back at Rennie that tucked itself inside the far left post.
The Falcons doubled the lead 5:03 later when Ingersoll slipped a pass from right-to-left- for Tess Anderson, who beat Rennie to make it 2-0.
Southern New Hampshire picked up its attack over the second half of the opening stanza and had a good opportunity when freshman Laura van der Doorn (Beverwijk, Netherlands) peppered Bentley goalkeeper Evelyn Schaedel with back-to-back shots, but was turned away both times.
Bentley extended its lead to 3-0 just under 10 minutes into the second half when Taylor Kane received the entry off a penalty corner and sent a drive toward the cage that was deflected in by Ingersoll.
Notes:
-Soucy made four saves for the Penmen, while Schaedel stopped eight shots for Bentley.
-Shots were even at 11 apiece, with Southern New Hampshire holding a 10-6 advantage in penalty corners.
The Penmen return to action Wednesday, Sept. 21 (7 p.m.) when they take on crosstown rival Saint Anselm College. The next home game for the Penmen is Saturday, Sept. 24 (12 p.m.) when they play host to American International College at Larkin.
