Sophomore Maddie Holt (Seabrook, N.H.) set the tone with the eventual game-winning goal in the fourth minute to lead the Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team to a 2-0 victory against Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Sunday afternoon at Larkin Field.

Holt put the Penmen on the board just 3:54 into the match when she drilled a low shot from the middle-right of the circle that snuck inside the far left post to make it 1-0.

The game stayed that way into the 62nd minute when Southern New Hampshire was finally able to double its lead in a wild sequence of events. Junior Erin Frost (E. Andover, N.H.) sent a pair of shots on net that were saved by Saint Thomas Aquinas goalkeeper Jessica Stewart before the second rebound squirted out to the right where sophomore Cassidy Huckins (Boscawen, N.H.) hit a quick shot that was again stopped by a diving Stewart.

The Penmen were awarded a penalty stroke, however, with freshman Laura van der Doorn (Beverwijk, Netherlands) doing the honors. Her shot to the top-left corner of the cage was blocked away by Stewart, but the officials awarded a second stroke to SNHU as the ball was originally placed on the wrong spot. van der Doorn made good on her second attempt as her shot ricocheted off Stewart's blocker and into the top-right corner of the net, expanding the lead to 2-0 with 8:38 remaining in regulation.

Notes:
- The third win of the season sets a program record for the Penmen in just their third year of existence.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Melanie Rennie (Madison, Conn.) turned aside the only shot she faced to earn her first career shutout. Stewart racked up 12 saves for the Spartans.
- Southern New Hampshire outshot Saint Thomas Aquinas, 29-1, including 17-0 in the second half, and also held a decisive 15-1 advantage in penalty corners.
